Harold and Burt live in a retirement home. They're long-time friends, but not much alike. Burt is a curmudgeon who spends most of his time in pajamas and bathrobe, while Harold is a snappy dresser and more of an optimist. They spend their days on a bench in the garden bickering. And there's something in their past...
Left to right, Phil Perrin, Judy Tetlow and Harold Potter. |
Then Adrienne, a once-famous actress, moves into the home. Harold and Burt both take an interest in her, and perhaps surprisingly she takes an interest in them—giving them something new to argue over.
But then they learn that the home where they live is about to sold to a developer and they will have to move. The three join forces to prevent this unwanted development.
A Bench in the Sun premiered at the Westport Country Playhouse in Connecticut in 1999.
